Hopscotch social prescribing experiment

Created by Freddie Moussa

Whenever I see a hopscotch drawn anywhere, a smile comes over me and I absolutely want to play. So I decided to test this out and see if there are other people like me.

It’s summer,

Weather is nice.

We want to be outdoors.

So here is an invitation…

Download the flyer and scan the code for inspo.

Share some photos and data if possible.

I have created one right outside my house where people go for regular walks, I’m hoping that people will play along and hop and skip. If nothing, hopefully seeing the chalked hopscotch might brighten their day.

So what is Social Prescribing one might ask? Social prescribing utilizes the arts, volunteerism, nature, and local community organizations as medicine for patients of all ages. Social prescribing considers social health as important to a patient’s well-being as physical and mental health, and is a key tool to address the loneliness epidemic and the social determinants of health. The use of our community resources as medicine is one of the next big ideas in health care in the U.S., as it is in 30 countries around the World.

Our goal behind the hopscotch social prescribing experiment is twofold, 1) to understand what play means in adulthood 2) can simple experiences address loneliness

We have started creating hopscotch in busy downtowns and below is some real life design research. We have permission to use these videos but they cannot be downloaded or shared so please respect the content.

We are trying to collect research data on play in adulthood. Kindly fill this survey below and help us with this social experiment. Name (Last name can be an initial), gender, and age are vital to this experiment. This research is part of a new initiative called the Intergen Play Circle. Thank you for your time and for your willingness to play with us!
